What About The Bus
Head Start makes every attempt to
provide safe
transportation for your child. An
adult
with a safe driving record and a CDL with school bus endorsements will
be
driving the bus. A
second trained staff
member will ride the bus as a monitor to care for the children. The bus driver may also
drive for field trips
or to some Head Start meetings.
- Please review the Transportation Rules before your child is added to the bus route! If someone else will be getting your child on/off the bus, (babysitter, friend or family member), make sure they are aware of these rules.
- Your child’s pick up and/or drop off times may vary: Bus routes may change due to new children being added to the route, a child leaving the program or weather conditions. Please be ready at least fifteen (15) minutes before and after the scheduled pick-up time, in case the bus is early.
- Have your
child ready to go! Each
bus stop limited to three (3) minutes or less to prevent problems with
traffic and to keep the bus route on time as much as possible.
- Your
child must be escorted to the bus!
In order to ensure the safety of your child,
you or another adult must bring your child to the bus.
The bus monitor will buckle your child into the seat. The bus driver must remain
in their seat at all times for safety.
- We
must follow Federal Head Start Regulations, which are
stricter than Ohio Law requires. All
Head Start children will be required to use a child restraint system
appropriate to their age, weight and height.
(For example: car seat, Bessie Vest, or lap belt,
etc…)
- Head
Start cannot guarantee that the bus will run each
day! There
are often circumstances beyond our control that cause the buses to be
unavailable such as: lack of a bus driver, lack of a monitor, or if the
bus breaks down.
- Parents volunteering may ride on the bus that day if there is room, however no children other than the Head Start child or Head Start Childcare Center Collaboration children can be on the bus at any time.
