Head Start Offers

Education

Certified and professional  staff encourage independence, self-confidence, and safety awareness through the use of developmental screening and age-based curriculum.

Socialization

Social skills are developed through interaction with other children and the staff at the center.  Field trips also provide the opportunity for learning to interact in the community.

Nutrition

*  Healthy breakfast/snack and lunch are provided.

*  Nutrition education

Health

Each child is to receive a complete physical and dental exam.  Vision, hearing, and
developmental screenings are provided.  Referrals made as needed.

Family Services

Social Services are available to support families and to link them to resources in the community.

Parent Group

Parent Groups meet regularly, and are scheduled at times that parents tell us are convenient for them.   Parent Group meetings are opportunities for parents to learn more about topics such as: how the program runs, child development, nutrition, discipline and parenting ideas, coping with stress, health, and first aid.

At Parent Group meetings you can:

·        Attend trainings for parents about topics you request
·        Learn about community events/issues
·        Meet other parents who also have 3-5 year olds
·        Share ideas and moral support with other parents
·        Talk about how your Head Start site operates
·        Elect representatives to Policy Council
·        Have a say in how Head Start is operated
·        Plan activities for Head Start Parents

Every parent* is a member of the Parent Group.  Active parents ensure the program is the most beneficial for them and their child.

We know parents are busy . . .but Parent Groups can do a lot for children and parents, and they're fun!  All parents are encouraged to come.  Other family and friends are also welcome.

Funds are available, from the Head Start budget, for parents to plan parent activities.   At no time may donations be asked for or accepted from local businesses or any other person or organization in the name of Head Start (or any Head Start classroom or Parent Group) or the HHWP Community Action Commission.

*When we say "parent", we are also referring to guardians, foster parents, grandparents who are raising their grandchild, or any other person who is in the role of parent for the Head Start Child.

Parents Are Always Welcome!
